Create a Windows Server 2008 Template

Create a Windows Server 2008 Template

1) Create a VPS as normal, using the ISO template option for the template.

2) After the VPS has been created, go to "ISO Mounter" and insert the filename of the ISO into the top textbox. The ISO should be located on the same folder the VPS is being installed on, in the folder /virt/iso/

3) For the network driver, you will also need to put this ISO in the 2nd textbox: Download link

4) Go to the Account list, check the VPS and click on "Edit (Advanced)".

5) Set "template" to one of the following; (Replace "standard" with the windows version, for example: enterprise, datacenter, standard, web, etc

windows-server2003-32bit-standard
windows-server2003-64bit-standard

windows-server2003-R2-32bit-standard
windows-server2003-R2-64bit-standard

windows-server2008-32bit-standard
windows-server2008-64bit-standard

windows-server2008-R2-32bit-standard
windows-server2008-R2-64bit-standard

The important bits that VirtPanel looks at are in bold. Anything else is for visual aid for the user to determine what the template is.

6) Reboot the VPS before installing it to reflect the template change you made above.

7) Install the VPS by connecting to the "KVM VNC" through an allocation like TightVNC.

8) Install the network driver by going to Device Manager, right clicking on the network card and clicking on "Update driver software". The location is E:\WIN7\AMD64\

9) You will need to configure the networking manually to start. The gateway should be set to the IP address of the host server. The netmask should be set to 255.255.255.255

10) You will need to rename "Local Area Connection" to "Internet" for the startup script below to work.

11) A startup script inside Windows is required to configure the networking and password automatically for every new VPS. Click here for the script

12) After installing updates and configuring the VPS to your requirements, inside VirtPanel go to "Create Template" and follow the instructions to create the Template.
